Chevrolet City Express Airbag Recall

Nissan North America has filed a safety recall report with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for faulty airbag sensors. Around 3.5 million vehicles are being recalled and it includes Infiniti and Chevrolet models too.

The Chevrolet City Express is listed on the new recall report because of the faulty sensors that are used to determine if deploying the front passenger airbag is necessary. If a crash occurs, the sensors may fail in classifying the passenger seat as being occupied by an adult, child or it could assume that thereís nobody sitting in that seat. In this case, the airbag will not deploy if accident occurs.

Nissan says the sensor failure is caused in part by a passengerís unusual sitting position after entering the car or the odd way someone actually gets into said car.

The fix for this is dependent on the vehicle, some models will have the software reprogramed and some may need to have the hardware completely replaced.

According to the report, only the Chevrolet City Express models built between Sep 22, 2014 - Mar 01, 2016 may be affected. Nissan is in the process of identifying and confirming the affected vehicles and will be updating the information once they have done so.

Their recall sites may not have been updated yet but you can still give it a try.

Thanks for the heads up, this is one of those last things you want to go wrong since of course when you get into an accident there's nothing to cushion the impact on your head.

Still surprises me that things like this still are turning out faulty at times.
