2016 Chevy City Express Nominated for Green Commercial Car of the Year

It is the inaugural year for Green Car Journal's Green Commercial Car of the Year award.

The Chevy City Express was joined by 4 of its competitors as the full field of nominees was announced. The five nominees for the award are: the Chevrolet City Express, the Ford Transit Connect, the Mercedes-Benz Metris the NV200, and the Ram ProMaster.

Quote:
"These finalists showcase how improved environmental performance is becoming part of the DNA of pickups and light commercial vehicles," said San Antonio Auto Dealers Association President Pam Crail. "Recognizing the importance of these advanced technologies at the San Antonio Auto & Truck Show is an important step toward encouraging more of these vehicles on South Texas highways."
Indeed, advancement in design and technology has made commercial vehicles more efficient and therefore a cost saving investment in the long term for businesses. And that is not to mention the lesser environmental impact.

The nominees will be judged on a number of different criteria. Those criteria include:market significance, and 'newness', among others. One thing that they will not be judged on is the type of fuel that they run on. All will be treated equal in that respect.

Do you think that the Chevy City Express could take home the Green Commercial Car of the Year award? Is 'greenness' a factor that you think about when making a car buying decision?

Hard to tell if they'll win or not because the Mercedes-Benz Metris seems to be a game changer in the U.S. with it's cargo and passenger versions.

I know right.
It's going to be a battle to the top, but at least in the end it betters the market for us, the losing brand will be forced to be more competitive.

We'll know soon enough. The truck show is on November 19-22. Not sure if winning an award will be enough to sway some people over to one commercial car or the other.

It won't, at the least it will get their attention and have them look into the vehicle. Anyone looking to get the most will look at what the segment and surrounding segments have.
