i can see a lot of back and forth going on about this with companies in the industry that are for and against this.

That's what the Taxi Commission is upset about, they have to meet certain qualities and standards which contribute to the cost of their fare. Uber who circumvents those standard protocols does not suffer the same fate. Regulate the two on an equal playing field (they're offering an identical service after all) and there will be next to no cost difference between the two.

I think that Uber is great for people though. The only reason why taxis are upset about it is because it is a better business model than the traditional taxi industry. The taxi industry is trying to regulate Uber out, but that simply won't happen. Its capitalism, adapt or be taken out. The future will see way more taxi apps, let alone other things that Uber is investing in. It will soon be a delivery service for everything.

Not sure how I feel about Nissan providing all the taxis though, doesn't seem like very fair competition.

What exactly do you mean? It seems to me that Nissan has the whole NYC taxi industry wrapped up. How do you think that Ram is going to get in on it? What does Ram have that would make a good taxi anyway?
